Listed in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America since 1993, George Howard practices labor and employment law on behalf of management. In 2007, 2008 and 2009 he was recognized by Super Lawyers as one of the top 10 attorneys in San Diego in any area of practice. Since 2005 he has been listed in Chambers USA as one of the premier labor and employment lawyers in California.  In 2007 and 2009, he was selected by the San Diego Daily Transcript as one of the city's leading labor lawyers.

George has tried major employment cases, including multiweek bench and jury cases, as well as many shorter matters to judges, administrative law judges, and arbitrators. He has handled through pretrial proceedings a large number of lawsuits involving employment discrimination, wage/hour issues, harassment, trade secrets, and employment contract disputes and wrongful termination. He has extensive experience in union/management relations and collective bargaining, along with trial experience in contract, warranty, and real estate cases.

George is a past chair of the Employers Group Legal Committee, a group of 17 California employment lawyers who represent the interests of employers, as amicus curiae, in appeals of important employment cases in state and federal courts.

George is a Fellow of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. He is a founding editor of The Rutter Group's California Practice Guide — Employment Litigation and continues to serve as a contributing editor of that widely used treatise. In 1999 and 2000, he was instrumental in negotiating the first collective bargaining agreement in California between a labor organization and a federally recognized Indian tribe. In 1995 he conducted sexual harassment training for the California Supreme Court and the state courts of appeal. A past president of the San Diego chapter of the Industrial Relations Research Association, he is a frequent speaker on employment law topics for such groups as The Rutter Group, the Association of Corporate Counsel, and the University of Southern California Institute for Corporate Counsel.

From 1999 to April 2007, George was a partner in the San Diego office of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and was the firm's senior labor/employment lawyer in California. Between 1986 and 1999, he was chair of the labor and employment practice at the San Diego law firm of Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP.
